Mackenzie + Kirk // Wisconsin Family Farm Wedding // Happy Gnome Photography

All weddings celebrate the love of two people coming together.  But some weddings more than others celebrate the love of two families coming together.  Never have I seen that more beautifully expressed than at the marriage of Mackenzie and Kirk. When we first met a year ago, Mackenzie told me that the plan was to have the wedding on the farm where she grew up.  Her parents had plans to fix up anything that might need fixing in the year to come and she and Kirk both were looking forward to starting their marriage there in a place that meant so much to so many.  When I stopped by to see the farm a few days before the wedding Kirk's family had arrived and everyone was hard at work, cleaning, painting and generally making merry as they readied the farm for the big day.

Usually I don't pay too much attention to weather forecasts in the days leading up to a wedding.  Saturday is coming no matter what, no sense worrying about it.  But as the day got closer, it was pretty evident we were going to get some rain.  But a little rain wasn't going to put a damper on this gorgeous day.  As Mackenzie and her father walked down the isle under a pergola he built himself, the clouds turned dark.  Moments after they reached the front the sky opened up and let loose a torrential downpour that sent everyone running for the tent.  As I gathered up my equipment and followed the crowds in it warmed my heart to see a tent full of sunny joyful faces.  Faces full of friends and family who didn't care at all that they got a little wet.  They were all just so happy to be there.  And none were happier than the bride and groom, who just couldn't stop looking at each other.  20 minutes and 20 towels borrowed from inside the house later, 20 amazing catering staff volunteers were out drying off chairs and we were back in business.  What bride wouldn't want the chance to walk down the isle with her father twice??  This time we were able to have the ceremony that Mackenzie and Kirk had always dreamed of, followed by a pretty kick ass cocktail hour complete with a beer truck, yard games and some goats.  It doesn't get much better than that!

Mackenzie and Kirk, your wedding day was everything that every wedding day should be.  It was a day filled with family and friends.  It was a celebration of love and commitment.  It was a beautiful reminder to all of us that when you find that one person who you want to be your travel partner for life, you should hold on tight and make sure your passport is up to date!
Thank you for allowing me to share in your special day!
